COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. (January 30, 2026) – The Colson Center (TCC) joined a nationwide coalition of 47 organizations led by Them Before Us in launching the Greater Than campaign. The campaign protects children’s rights by calling for the overturn of Obergefell v. Hodges.
The Greater Than campaign believes that children’s needs are greater than adult desires and calls for the overturning of the Supreme Court’s 2015 ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges, which redefined marriage and prioritized the needs of adults over those of children.
“The ‘marriage equality’ movement did not deliver what it claimed. A segment of the population, namely children, have been dehumanized, and their rights have been trampled on,” said Colson Center President John Stonestreet. “It is time for adults to champion their well-being over our own wants and desires. Greater Than is a movement that is long overdue, and much needed.”
By prioritizing children's inherent rights to both their mother and father–essential for their stability, identity, safety, and thriving–the campaign seeks to reverse the societal harms that have elevated adult desires over children's well-being.
In 2015, the U.S. Supreme Court mandated nationwide same-sex marriage in Obergefell v. Hodges on the grounds that adult “equality” required extending to same-sex couples the “constellation of benefits” historically associated with marriage.
When Obergefell invented a “right” to marry a person of the same sex, the law was forced to accomplish what biology prohibits, making two adults of the same sex parents of a child. That required a decade-long overhaul of parenthood centered around adult desire rather than child need.
“The legal result of so-called adult equality has been the commodification of children. Ask the children who have been starved of maternal or paternal love, acquired by predators, mass produced, trafficked across borders, struggling with identity confusion, or subjected to risky households if they feel ‘equal’ now. We will retake marriage for the sake of these children whose basic needs should never have been made less than in the eyes of the law,” said Katy Faust, Founder and President of the child-advocacy organization, Them Before Us, leading the Greater Than coalition.
“The connection between natural marriage and child protection is primal, real, and unescapable. The Obergefell holding ultimately cannot stand against it,” Faust added.
"Focus on the Family is proud to be a part of the Greater Than movement. When the needs of children are neglected, it’s not just the children who suffer. Families are hurt and society itself is destabilized,” Jim Daly, president of Focus on the Family said. “We see the tragic evidence of this all around us. And that’s why we wholeheartedly embrace Greater Than’s conviction that real progress means putting children’s needs ahead of adult desires.”
TV and Podcast host, Steve Deace, added: "I'm a part of this effort for three reasons: There is no more precious resource in any culture than its children, there is no more important institution in any culture than the nuclear family, and this is a coalition of folks who are serious about doing right by both."
